Today we traveled south from our RV camp. Our first stop was in Bear Creek. It is called Devil's Tramping Ground. It is a circle of dirt that legends say the devil walks in circles there; thinking of evil things to do. The website that I use was right, it is a circle of dirt. It didn't tell us that we would have to trespass to see it up close.
Last night when we mentioned that we were going to Bear Creek our friend told us about a fruit cake factory there in town so we decided to go there too. We missed being able to take the tour, but did get free samples and bought some stuff.
Looking at the map I noticed a place called House in the Horseshoe that was a State Historic Site and on the way to our next stop. So off we went! It turned out that it was closed on Mondays so to get close for pictures we, again, had to trespass. The name is because the house sits inside a horseshoe river bend.
On to Cameron to see some Barnstormer Murals. The website had said we should pick up a map to find them. Didn't see anyplace that looked like they would have them so we went to the post office. The woman there didn't live in Cameron and had no idea what I was talking about but suggested going to the town office. Got there and we saw a woman try to get in, but it was closed. Took a chance and asked her if she new where to get the map. She had no idea, but told us about where some of them were. Didn't have to trespass this time.
Passed cotton fields on the way |
As the woman said, they need to be refreshed! |
Our last stop was in Southern Pines. We went to see the Creation Museum, Taxidermy Hall of Fame and Antique Tool Museum, all under one roof! It was my kind of town, a real downtown, blocks with lovely houses, and lots of restaurants.
We are leaving here tomorrow. The place is a little rustic, the toilets are outhouses and the showers are cold air, but since we have our own, no problems. Way out in the country, and very quiet.
