We left Shady Acres on Wednesday the third and drove to Doswell, Virginia. We are staying at the Kings Dominion KOA for three nights. Not a bad spot, but I bet when the amusement park is in full swing, it would be a mad house.
Today we went to Richmond, VA and visited several sites. Except that it is in Virginia (with its new governor), Richmond seemed like a nice city. Our first stop was at the Poe Museum. It was a lovely bunch of old buildings, none of which we think Poe lived in. They had lots of items from his past: his childhood bed, a chair he had, a staircase from a house he lived in, etc. Our next stop was the Chimborazo Hospital. The original hospital was gone and the museum about it was closed, but the park was lovely, but a little cool, in the 50's. From there we went to see the Grand Kugel! On to the Markel Building. It was designed by Haigh Jamgochian and inspired by a baked potato wrapped in foil that was served to him at an American Institute of Architects' dinner. Just imagine what he would have done if someone had fed him pigs-in-a-blanket... After the modern building we went to see Agecroft Hall and Gardens. It is a Tudor...
