OK, yesterday had sprinkles, but was in the high fifties, today was very sunny, but only got into the forties.  Maybe I picked the wrong day!  Dick gave me his work gloves, which was great, except I had to keep taking them off to take pictures.  I didn't have a hat so I put up my hood.  Dick said I looked like Kenny from South Park.   There seemed to be a Porsche convention going on. I couldn't get a picture of all of them. I couldn't get a picture that really shows how high it is. Me as Kenny. Lace Falls at the end of the path.   The Saltpeter Cave. The Lost River. When we were done at Natural Bridge we went to find a place to have lunch.  Ended up at the Pink Cadillac Diner.  The food was very good and the atmosphere was exactly what I would expect of a place called that.   After lunch we went for a drive and ended up back in Lexington.  We drove by Jackson's house to get a picture of the front to show the steps they had to put in when...

Again we didn't have service last night.  Yesterday we had planned to go see the Natural Bridge.  The weather said showers so we went to Lexington instead.  Today is going to be cold but nice. We missed the Coffee Pot when we were in Winston Salem but on the way to Lexington we took a side trip to see the Coffee Pot House.  Of course we did! When we got into town we went to the VMI Museum.  My reason is pictured below, Little Sorrel, "Stonewall" Jackson's Civil War horse. The museum was more interesting than I thought it would be. His jacket, with the bullet hole in the sleeve.  I hadn't ever known his name was Thomas. At the Ring Dance (when they received their class rings) their dates have to wear long white dresses. I never got to see David, but I got to see this guy, whomever he is. Walking around town, I saw this.  My kind of thing! Back to VMI.  The cadets had to keep their books on the shelf in order by the size of the books. From VMI to Ja...

I was going to post last night, but we don't have good service here.  Maybe too many people using it when I wanted to. Yesterday was a travel day, we are now back in Virginia slowly heading home.  We did drive into Roanoke and got a picture of their star.  We didn't have time to go up there, but at least we saw it.

It being Veterans Day I want to thank any of you reading this. I forgot to mention yesterday that we went to the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  They didn't allow pictures so I don't have anything to show you.  That is probably the reason I forgot to mention it.  They had beautiful stuff but very expensive.  There was a ceramic raven I would have loved, but they wanted $79.00. Today is our last day in North Carolina. We decided to drive over to Cherokee and see the museum there and maybe the casino.  I didn't take any pictures but the road we started on went through the town of  Cruso along East Fork Pigeon River.  During Tropical Depression Fred there was flooding that took out a great many houses and a camp ground.  All along the road houses were ruined.  Six people died.  It was a real mess. While it was longer, we chose to take the Blue Ridge Parkway.  If you have never been on it, it is beautiful.  We had drive...

We had an Asheville day today.  Our first stop was the Moogseum, but it wasn't open yet.  One block away was the Thomas Wolfe house.  This was the boarding house that his mother bought.  She soon realized that she couldn't run it from the family house so she moved there with Thomas, the youngest of the eight kids.   Portrait of him.   The parlor. The kitchen.  Note the plumbing.  The house didn't have any to begin with. One of two sleeping porches.  His mother would often put more than one in a bed. One of (I think) three.  She would have up to 40 boarders. Next we went to the Moogseum, but I couldn't take pictures inside.  I found out that I am not a good Theremin player.  They had a tutorial for playing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and I totally failed! Next stop was the Iron.  I haven't found out why it is there, maybe later I'll look that up.   On to a vinyl record pressing factory (It also had a restaurant and a ...
